The Art and Craft of Pitching
Dreaming of landing a magazine assignment, or selling a book to a publisher? No matter what your topic or audience you’ll need a convincing pitch letter to sell it. In this 3-hour workshop, author, journalist and PWAC Quebec President Julie Barlow leads participants through the process of writing a concise, captivating pitch letter to sell a story or book idea. She explains how good pitches are useful even after you’ve published – and even if you self-publish. Participants are encouraged to bring drafts of pitches to share and workshop with the group.
Julie Barlow is the author of 5 books on France, the French and on language, including the international bestseller Sixty Million Frenchmen Can’t Be Wrong and her latest, The Bonjour Effect. Recipient of numerous writing and journalism awards, including the Quebec Writers’ Federation’s Mavis Gallant Prize for Non-Fiction, she has published hundred of articles in English in French, in Canada, the U.S. and Europe and is a regular contributor to Quebec’s public affairs magazine L’acualité.
