Ian refers to the exponential increase in the number of blogs over the years. Our audience was astonished when he stated that in 1999 there were 23 blogs and in 2010 the figure reached 152 million!
AUDREY McLAREN McGOLDRICK

Peter Anthony Holder was Audrey’s inspiration for starting her two blogs. At the time she thought, “He writes pretty well and I write pretty well. You write whatever you want and you put the date there.” Her math blogging career blossomed from there.AUDREYSelf-proclaimed life-long learner, Audrey “pours herself into her blog”. She aims for an audience of teachers who wants to use educational technology in their classrooms. She once put “Wizard of Oz” into the title of a blog post and got the most hits ever.

“Posting consistently is important as is content that you can’t stop reading,” says Aimee.

After her restaurant career at Montreal’s La Toque & the birth of her first child, she decided to motivate herself creatively by starting a blog called “Under the Highchair”. That, in turn, led to her present position at Simple Bites. Most comfortable with a knife in the kitchen, she now writes & edits for Simple Living Media publications where she maintains full control over her blog.

MARIJKE VROOMEN DURNING
Marijke: nurse turned writer

Google “Nurse Writer” and Marijke’s blog always pops up as the #1 or #2 search result. She receives consistent, regular traffic with between 30 to 200 hits per day from mostly first time visitors looking for health information. Her most popular blogs were on elderly hip fractures and pneumonia.

She occasionally goes on rants about things that “annoy the heck” out of her like pool deaths which she finds totally inexcusable.

Although her blog got her a lot of freelance work, she didn’t have a vision when she first started. Life was a “series of accidents”, but now she realizes how important her blog is to her professional life especially for self promotion.

STEVE FAGUY aka Fagstein
http://blog.fagstein.com/

Steve started his blogging career in the fall of 2006 during the Dawson College shootings with live posts to his friends who liked them so much that he decided to go public. He turned his attention to writing sarcastic comments about the local media and was, at the time, the only one doing so. As his “profile got bigger and thirst for knowledge”, he segued into freelance writing which included work at the Montreal Gazette.

Self promotion and pure enjoyment are two of the biggest reasons that he blogs.

All in all, the evening was a success!
