Due to unforeseen circumstances, we have had to change one of the speakers scheduled for our Writer’s Boot Camp on Saturday, May 21, 2011. (Here’s the link with the full details.)
New Media + New Journalism = New Business Models*
Can today’s digital climate actually empower freelance writers? Warren Perley says yes! He will explain how the internet has created the right conditions for a new business model. This belief led to the creation of a new online journalism initiative for freelancers, Beststory.ca. Planned to be officially launched in October 2011, Beststory.ca will allow writers to sell their non-fiction stories directly to individual readers anywhere in the world. A writer with media outlets such as the Canadian Press, The Montreal Star, The Montreal Gazette, and United Press International, Warren Perley’s career has spanned more than three decades. He was the co-founder of The Hampstead Herald, a Montreal weekly that published between 1989 and 1991, whose contented was penned largely by freelancers.
