Mediaville recap

Mediaville hosts its first All-Media Mixer

Giancarlo La Giorgia’s baby, Mediaville, is not only growing up, but sprinting! On June 17th the freelance media agency reached its tween phase — between birth and its goal of becoming an association of associations that connects freelancers to clients — when it hosted its first networking event for media professionals, the All-Media Mixer.

With light snacks to oil the wheels of words, a mix of 34 writers, editors, translators, marketing communicators, photographers, print and web designers, multimedia producers mingled in the laid back atmosphere of Station C, a co-working space run by Dan and Patrick in the heart of Mile-End. The event kicked off with founder Giancarlo’s brief intro about Mediaville followed by an explanation of Station C’s ins and outs by one of its administrators.

Promoting local freelancers through an online directory and increasing collaborations between freelancers are two of Giancarlo’s goals for Mediaville. As introductions were made around the room, visions of future mind and project melds flickered through my head.

Encouraging liaisons with other writing, media and communications associations is another. Invited guest Yvonne Callaway Smith, Montreal Chapter President of IABC (International Association of Business Communicators), gave us a “heads up” on what her group has to offer regarding networking and professional development.

Giancarlo called the event “quite the little success”.  An understatement indeed!

Many of us are eagerly looking forward to the next one.
