In a recent vote, the charter members of the Canadian Freelance Union (CFU) voted overwhelmingly in favour of the proposed bylaws (45 to 3 in favour). Known as Local 2040 of the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union (CEP), the CFU aims to be the collective voice for independent media professionals. Health plans, contract advice, grievance support, and most of all, better pay rates and rights for freelancers, are among the benefits offered to members. Annual Membership dues are $125, while charter members are offered a one-time-only discount of $100. Visit www.cfunion.ca for more information and membership forms.
