Dix Mille Villages NDG is having their second annual “Coffee House” event to celebrate Fair Trade Weeks. Last year’s was such a huge success, they have decided to host another one on Friday May 8th from 8:30 – 10 PM.
The theme of this year’s Fair Trade Weeks is BIG BANG! 110 million Fair Trading artisans, farmers, producers and supporters, including Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Sir Paul McCartney, Annie Lennox, Eddie Izzard, Stomp, Sigur Ros, Dudu Sarr, Suzanna Owiyo, Carlou D, The Zawose Family, Honest Jon’s and Ismael Lo, sign-up to:
- BEAT POVERTY!
- BEAT CLIMATE CHANGE!
- BEAT ECONOMIC CRISIS!
Dix Mille Villages NDG is looking for actors, comedians, musicians and poets/spoken word performers who would like to contribute their talents for 8-10 minutes to this event. Ideally the artistic contribution will relate on some level to the above themes.
A little background: Dix Mille Villages is a chain of Fair Trade stores, whose employees (except for managers) are all volunteers. They rarely buy paid advertising but rely instead on word of mouth and events such as this to raise awareness about Fair Trade and thereby increase the demand for fair trade products. All the products they sell are made in co-ops from developing countries around the world where the artisans, most of whom are women, are paid directly & fairly for their work and in turn, their incomes improve the conditions of their homes, families and communities.
